When it comes to your engagement photo session, posing can seem a little scary. You want your photographs to express your personality and while you of course look natural as well.  No need to fear though, you had a meeting with the photographer, and they were able to get a feel for your personalities, what you comfortable with, and also the style you are going for.  Some couples like dramatic shots, while others like candid, quiet and intimate photos.   If you want to get some ideas for what types of posing a typical engagement session has, this is a great resource for you! Cowgirl meets her Cowboy| Karen and Marks Engagement

Karen and Mark are country style folk stuck in the city, so when they got engaged and it came time for engagement photos they wanted to get as far away from the city as possible.  So we went to some horse stables for fun rustic country photos.  Then we went over to the woods, and lastly could not pass up a walk on the beach.  Each couple has a unique story and personality, they brought along some fun items to use toward the end of the shoot, some hunting hats, cowboys boots and some cowboy and cowgirl signs, what a sweet couple they are!

A Dance Of Love | Megan and Tony’s Engagement Session

Tony had proposed to his college sweetheart Megan 9 months ago and really wanted to surprise her with amazing engagement photographs they could treasure forever (she had wanted to take nice couples photos together forever).  So on her birthday he took her out to a really nice dinner and told her that they were going to take engagement photographs in sunny San Diego!  They are from Indiana and he had just joined the US Navy, and would be deployed in a few months, so they both flew out here to spend a few precious weeks together before she returned to finish college and he took was deployed.  Once we heard their story, and the fact that they would be separated for 8 months or longer before being able to get married we had to take amazing photographs for them to get through this long time apart!

Why Get Engagement Photos done at all?

 Excitement is in the air, you just got engaged to the love of your life!  You are on a roll, you have a date set, a venue picked out and even the dress.  Now its time to find your photographer, this can be a pretty overwhelming task.  Often times engagement sessions can be extremely helpful in making sure that you pick the photographer that best fits you and your fiances unique personality and style. Engagement photos are so important, they allow you to tell your love story, the story of how your love grew, your unique style as a couple, what you normally wear, where you like to hang out together, what you like to do, what brings you close together. You and your fiancé have probably never had “professional” photographs taken together (like ever).  Sure, on your wedding day you will have hundreds of photos taken, but you will also be dressed up in a wedding dress and your groom will be in a suit, What about capturing the “everyday you”, that’s where engagement sessions come in, they allow you to be in your own personal style of clothing, doing a past time together, visiting a favorite hang-out you had while dating or partake in a hobby, having a pic-nic with favorite food or even hanging out at home. Amazing Ring Shots | Ideas for your ring

Excitement is in the air, you just got engaged or just said “I do” to the love of your life.  Family and friends are full of joy and excited to share in your big news, often times the first thing they ask to see is your engagement ring or wedding bands.  Sure the photograph taken with your camera phone will have to be enough in that very moment, but documenting your rings is a photograph that is often forgotten.  When you set up your engagement photo session be sure to inform your photographer that you want to have a unique and personal photograph or your ring.  Each couple’s story and personality are different and because of this getting that special ring shot is so important.

Delicious Arts | Unique and Amazing Desserts for your special event

One of the most awesome things about being a wedding photographer is getting to meet fellow vendors that we connect with and grow with.  Over the summer we were blessed with an opportunity to meet Ms. Donna Liu, owner of “Delicious Arts”.  She had created the amazing wedding cake for Julie and Johnny (yeah the one that looked just like a record player!) We sat at the same dinner table that wedding night and just hit it off, we kept in contact and needless to say when she gave us a call in September asking if we could do a themed Dessert shot with her, we jumped up and down and squealed with joy!

Lazy Afternoon in the woods | Meriah and Jake’s Engagement Session

We got to work with the sweetest couple on the planet, Meriah and Jake.  The genuine warmth they both have in their hearts for each other radiates out from the moment you meet them.  They wanted a quiet afternoon session that captured the love they have for one another.  As always, we really enjoy snagging the candid moments when they don’t see us looking, those photos always tell such a beautiful story  that can be cherished for a lifetime!  We started out on a hammock in the woods and after relaxing a bit, we headed down to the the La Jolla Scripps pier for a stroll on a cloudy afternoon on an almost empty beach.  

Stunning Salk Institute Engagement Photographs | Donle and Josh La Jolla Engagement Photos

When Donle and Josh contacted us for engagement photos they mentioned that they loved the architecture at Salk Institute at UCSD.  The day of the photo shoot was beautiful, with clear blue skies and the buildings were a classic and modern backdrop for this gorgeous couple.  We wandered around Salk until getting kicked out because they had to close the gate, then we headed down to the famous Windandsea for some breathtaking romantic ocean photos.

Kelley and I have been wanting to shot an engagement photo session in Julian for the longest time.  So needless to say, when Laurel and Luke agreed to pack into a car with us up the mountain for the afternoon we squealed with excitement.  So we headed up there with a trunk completely full of snacks and goodies  (crackers, fruit gummies and granola bars) packed by the lovely Laurel, that woman is such a sweet heart, Luke you are one lucky man!
